Defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will open the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium on March 29. The full schedule list of the league phase of the 13th edition of the Vivo IPL 2020 is out with all 8 teams playing 7 home and 7 away matches.

The high-profile tournament will start on March 29 with the 1st match to be a repeat of last year’s final between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings and the final will be played on May 24. This will make the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 the longest in the tournament history.

The organisers have done away with the Saturday double-headers, resulting in an extra week in the league phase. The BCCI sent out the final fixture to the franchises on Saturday, stating that six double-headers will take place only on Sundays.

The last league game is scheduled for May 17, between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai in Bengaluru. The Indian Premier League (IPL) will release the schedule for the knockouts later, but the final is scheduled for May 24.

The schedule of this year’s edition had already been released by the respective franchises before the BCCI announced it on Tuesday. While all the teams will play 7 home games in their base cities, 2 of Rajasthan Royals fixtures on April 5 and 9 could be played either in Jaipur or Guwahati. The venues for these couple of games will be finalised in the coming days.

This year, IPL will not see any double-headers on Saturdays but 2 back-to-back matches will be played on Sundays similar to previous editions except on the first and last days of the league stage.

Earlier, the IPL governing council had decided against changing timings of the night games from 8 pm to 7.30 pm despite pressure from a few stakeholders. In a noble gesture, the BCCI will have an All Stars Game between all top international players before the start of IPL for a charitable cause.

Earlier this year, speaking to IANS sources it was almost certain that games will start at 7.30 p.m. and it isn’t just about the broadcasters, it is also about how late games finished last season.
