Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri was reappointed as the head coach of the men’s senior cricket team (India) for the second successive term.
1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev, led CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee) made the decision. The committee interviewed the shortlisted candidates and made their final decision.
Shastri was re-appointed for a 2 year term till the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. This will be Shastri’s fourth time with the national team, having served as the cricket manager (2007 tour of Bangladesh), team director (2014-2016) and head coach (2017-2019).
Kapil Dev made the announcement at a press conference on Friday evening in Mumbai. Apart from Shastri, Mike Hesson, Robin Singh, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput applied for the post. Ravi Shastri’s last tenure ended after World Cup 2019.
Ravi Shastri was picked as the head coach of Team India for the first time back in 2017 by the then, CAC comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. Earlier, Shastri served as Team Director during World Cup 2015.
India Under Ravi Shastri’s Coaching
During Shastri’s coaching, India became the number one ranked team in the ICC Test rankings and performed very well in the 2019 World Cup, losing just two games out of the nine matches they played.
From 2017 to 2019, Shastri helped India to make history in Australia as India won their maiden Test series in Australia. Moreover, the team has won Test matches in South Africa, England and Australia within one calendar year. India also reached the semi-finals of World Cup 2019.
As a cricketer, Ravi Shastri has played 80 Test matches and scored 3830 runs. Shastri scored 11 centuries in test matches cricket. He also picked up 151 Test wickets during his career.
In the ODI format, Shastri featured in 150 matches and scored 3108 runs where the left-hander managed to score 4 centuries in his ODI career. He picked 129 wickets in the limited overs format.

The last main problem regarding Indian Cricket Team is, No. 4 slot for batting position and failure in overseas conditions.
- The bowling coach’s position has names like:
- Darren Gough;
- Venkatesh Prasad;
- Bharat Arun;
Bharat Arun was seen as the blowing coach. Because in his coaching pacers were sailing their mark.
- There is also interest to see if the current fielding coach, R.Sridhar, to be replaced by Jonty Rhodes.
Jonty Rhodes was acknowledged as one of the best fielders ever with a wealth of experience in this role.
